Marketing And What It Means To You
How do you feel about marketing your business? Is it something that you dislike or rather not do? Believe it or not, many firm owners feel the same way, and it’s something they are learning to accept. But if you want marketing to work, you will have to do more than just accept it, you have to embrace and conquer it.
I learned this back when I was in college at Clemson University. There were a lot of smart citizen there, and sometimes I even felt ashamed because I didn’t know as much as these guys. So I was all the time the one in the back not saying anything – hoping that the trainer would not respond to me.
This is like a lot of citizen that I know. They don’t want to do marketing, they don’t want to deal with customers, they don’t want to do any backend marketing… But they wanted a huge paycheck at the end of the day. Needless to say these citizen didn’t stay in firm too long, due to sheer laziness on their behalf.
But you don’t have to be this way. You can take marketing by the horns and truly make a nice profit from it. How would I know? Well because I’ve been down this road before. I got started in my firm a few years ago when I tried to do direct mail marketing. This didn’t turn out to be a profitable speculation for me.
Whenever I tried to make money using direct mail, I failed every time. And I failed every time because of the list that I had at my disposal. I picked a very poor list that I bought from this guy (I forgot how I found him), and ordered 1000 names. I paid the guy, got my direct mail envelopes and letters ready, and mailed it off expecting to get rich from this concept.
Boy was I wrong.
I didn’t make any money from this campaign, and that was the last time I ever bought from that list broker again. If I had to do it over again, I would rent a list from the Srds, and start my direct mail campaign here. This isn’t something that is particularly hard to do, it’s just a matter of picking the right list.
I didn’t stick with direct mail too long so I resorted to classified advertising. This indubitably worked out better for me than the mailing list that I had bought above. And I was totally stoked about the response that I had gotten.
I share my failures and success with you because I know you can find new and innovative ways to boost your sales and profits. All it starts with is an idea, and this idea is something that a lot of citizen didn’t believe in – but I believed in the business.
Sometimes you win some and some times you lose some when it comes to marketing. But the number that you win is “far surpassed” the levels of failure you. This is because when I win, I win Big. And I think you win big too – if you put your mind to it.
